Honors and Awards

Joyce Phillips Young has recieved many awards and honors throughout her, 40+ year, involment in the arts and art education. While each and evey instance holds a special sense of accomplishment there are simply too many to list. She has decided to share this limited listing so that you might partake in a few of the instances of her delight.

Partial Listing of Honors and Awards 1999-2009

  • 2009-Featured in “Who’s Who in Black Cincinnati”. Publication highlights the positive achievements of African Americans in Major cities in the USA of America      

  • Featured 2009 artist Florida Community College at Jacksonville, Rosanne R. Hartwell Women’s Center Each year the Center produces an impressive poster calendar featuring an image of a woman by a woman. Joyce’s well known image  “Mother Earth” was selected from among many other artists in the United States for this honor 

  • Featured in “Who’s Who in Black Cincinnati”; publication highlights the positive achievements of African Americans in major cities in the USA of America 

  • Second Place Painting Award, Dayton Black Cultural Festival Juried Exhibition,

  • Recipient of Brown-Forman Corporation Purchase Award Actors Theatre Ninth Annual African Juried Art Exhibition, Louisville, KY Feb. 2003

  • Commissioned by Artistic Impression, Lombard, Illinois to create two paintings depicting an aspect of African-American life

  • Arts Consortium Donald P. Sowell Award 1993 for Arts in Education for outstanding contribution as an artist and Cincinnati Public School Art Educator
